Hello dear readers. I’ve been absent from this Substack for a quite a spell. In the interim I have moved to the mountains and finished (or as least finished a mighty good draft of) a story that I’ve been working on for years.
In other news, three weeks ago I watched An Evening With Ray Bradbury. A lecture he gave to a room full of writers in 2001. His advice was simple - don’t start writing a novel. Please. Instead do this - every night, read one short story, one poem, and one essay. Then, once a week, write one short story.
I’ve been consistently reading these three types of writing each night and its impact has been surprising. In a world of small bits of information, unplugging and reading has been very good for my heart and mind. The essays in particular have helped give perspective to the world right now. So I decided to start a Substack based on his simple and profound advice. It’s called The Ray Bradbury Challenge and you can find the link to todays post below.
If you want to read the daily posts, it’s free. But if you’re up for the challenge, subscribe at a paid level and you can post what you’re reading in the comments section.
Take care and be kind to yourself and others.
Love, Sidse
